We will remind you of "Oriental Zodiac Paper and Painting Techniques"

A brief explanation of the "Kirikane" and "Sunago" techniques used in zodiac paper.

「Kirigane」・・・ Kirihaku, noge, tanzaku (a thicker version of noge)

The photograph shows two pieces of gold leaf, baked together with heat (in the full-scale process, the foil is joined with charcoal heat) and cut with a bamboo sword, called "none.

Generally, five to six pieces of cut gold leaf are joined together for crafts, but in my case, I use two to three pieces for "painting".

I cut the gold leaf so that the width of the gold leaf (about 0.5 mm or so) becomes thicker little by little from left to right.

This note (gold or platinum foil, etc.) is sprinkled on the screen with glue water or dosa solution, then picked up with foil chopsticks and sprinkled on the screen.

Note: The stand on which the foil is cut is called a "leaf board," and its surface is "deerskin.

Bamboo is used for foil, such as bamboo swords and foil chopsticks because the foil material does not like moisture and static electricity.

The photo on the right shows a 5mm wide square that has been cut with a bamboo knife.

The length of one side is varied according to the screen size and decorative effects and is sown on the screen.

Sunago

Gold or platinum leaf is placed in a bamboo tube with a net over one hole,

The gold or platinum foil is then sprinkled onto the screen using a special brush, and the top is pressed down with a thin sheet of Japanese paper.

There are four to five different sizes of nets, from very rough to very fine, and they are selected according to the screen size and the effect.
